Shanta Chaudhary received an opportunity for education unlike many of her contemporaries, as her father was an Executive Member of the local school and believed that girls should be able to receive schooling and education. However, in grade seven she left formal education to pursue informal education through Backward Society Education (BASE), of which she was also a Founding Member. Her community, inspired by her successes in education, started to build an environment for homeschooling. Afterwards, she participated in the Kamaiya Revolt institutionally. However, after the CDO refused their application to free Kamaiyas, she and her fellow activists took it to the streets and protested. Her landlord, seeing her protest in TV, evicted her. Eventually, the revolt led to the liberation of Kamaiya people from the bondage system.
