प्यारी चौधरी

प्यारी चौधरीले आफ्नो बाल्यकाल काम गरेर बिताइन्। विवाह पछि पनि उनी छोरा-छोरीको पेट भर्न दिन-रात काम गरिन्, तापनि उनले आधा पैसा पनि पाउँदिन थिइन्. छोरा-छोरी ५-६ वर्ष भए पछि जमिन्दारले काम गर्न बोलाए। पहिला छोरीहरुलाई पठाएतापनि पछि भने उनले फिर्ता बोलाइन् र आफ्नो माईतमा लगिन्। तर जनयुद्धले गर्दा त्यहाँ बस्न पनि गाह्रो भयो। त्यो बेला उनी थारू आन्दोलनको नेत्री भएर लागिन्। Pyari Chaudhari spent most of her childhood working instead of studying as it was not customary in her village for women to study. After she married her husband, she had to spend night and day working at others’ homes to raise her children. Despite this, she barely got half of what she worked for. After her children were 5-6 years old, the landlords asked her to make them work in others’ houses. Even though they initially agreed, it became clear that the children couldn’t work and she left for her father’s house with her husband and children. But around this time, the Maoist War started, due to which it became difficult for her to live there and she joined the Tharu Revolt.

शान्ता चौधरी

शान्ता चौधरीको बुवा स्थानीय स्कुलका व्यवस्थापक सदस्य रहेकाले कक्षा ७ सम्म उनीले औपचारिक शिक्षा हासिल गर्न पाइन्। त्यसपछि उनी ब्याकवार्ड ससाइटी एडुकेशन (बेस) को संस्थापक सदस्य भइन्। गाउँ-घरका मान्छेले प्रेरित भएर छोरीलाई घरबाट भए पनि पढाउन थाले। पहिले सि.डि.ओ.का मार्फत कमैया मुक्तिको निवेदन दिन जाँदा प्रहरीले हातपात गरेपछि उनी सडकमा गइन्। घरबेटीले थापाएर उनलाई घरबाट समेत निकाले पनि उनि कमैया मुक्ति नभए सम्म लडिरखिन्। Shanta Chaudhary received an opportunity for education unlike many of her contemporaries, as her father was an Executive Member of the local school and believed that girls should be able to receive schooling and education. However, in grade seven she left formal education to pursue informal education through Backward Society Education (BASE), of which she was also a Founding Member. Her community, inspired by her successes in education, started to build an environment for homeschooling. Afterwards, she participated in the Kamaiya Revolt institutionally. However, after the CDO refused their application to free Kamaiyas, she and her fellow activists took it to the streets and protested. Her landlord, seeing her protest in TV, evicted her. Eventually, the revolt led to the liberation of Kamaiya people from the bondage system.

२०५१ सालमा दाङमा जन्मेकी शान्ति चौधरीले आफ्नो बाल्यकालका ६-७ वर्ष त्यहिँ नै बिताइन्। २०५७ को बैशाख महिनामा भने उनी आमाबुवासँग कञ्चनपुरमा सरिन्। कञ्चनपुरमा भने केटा-केटी दुवैले पढ्ने अवसर पाएकाले उनी पढ्न थालिन्।  उनीलाई थारू आन्दोलनका बेलामा भोगेका सोषणको अझै सम्झना छ ।

कौशल्या चौधरी

पुर्व-कमैया कौशल्या चौधरीको परिवार ३ पुस्तादेखि नै कमैया थिए। उनी बाल्यकालमा जमिन्दारका लागि बिना ज्याला काम गर्थिन्। उनको परिवारमा धेरै जस्तो बेला खान नै पुग्दैन थियो। केटी भएकाले उनीले सानोमा पढ्ने अवसर धेरै पाइनन्। तर पनि उनी एक स्थानिय स्तरको महिला संगठनमा सचिव भने भइन्। त्यसपछि उनी थारु मुक्तिका लागि एक संस्थाको कोषाध्यक्ष बनेर राति-राति बैठकमा जान्थिन्। २०५७ को आन्दोलन सुरु भएपछि भने उनी दिन-रात आन्दोलनमा नै लागेर बिताइन्। अहिले भने उनी लुथरन विश्व महासंघमा आबध्द छिन्। Born to a family bonded in labour as a Kamaiya for three generations, Kaushalya Chaudhary is an ex-Kamaiya woman who has spent her life committed to fighting for this struggle. Her childhood was one of hardship; born into servitude, she often had to work for her landlord, even without wages. Despite this, her family rarely had enough money for food. While she had not pursued enough education, she did become the secretary of a local feminist organization. Later, she managed to become a treasurer for a Tharu-rights-oriented institution fighting the Kamaiya system. Often operating in secrecy; she spent her nights in covert meetings for the Tharu cause. Eventually, as the revolution rolled out in 2057 B.S., she would spend day and night protesting and participating in rallies across the country. Currently, she is affiliated with Lutheran World Federation.

लोकमाया चौधरी

२०४२ सालमा राप्ती गाउँपालिका वडा न्ं ४ मा जन्मेकी लोकमाया चौधरी त सानो उमेरमा नेपाली बोल्न पनि जान्दिन थिइन्। जमिन्दार शोशकहरुको अन्त्य गर्ने अभिप्रायले उनी माओवादी जनयुद्धमा समेत संलग्न भइन्। पछि उनी ‘जसको जोत उसकै भोग’ भन्ने नाराले समेत आन्दोलनमा लागिन्। माओवादीहरुले एउटा समिती गठन गरेपछि उनीपनि २०५९ मा त्यो समितीको सदस्य भइन्। २०६२-६३मा सुत्केरी अवस्थामा नै उनले मुक्त कमैयाका अधिकारका लागि लडिन्। Lokmaya Chaudhary, who was born in Rapti Village Municipality-4 in 2042 B.S, didn’t even know even know how to speak Nepali for most of her childhood. After entering politics in the Maoist Civil War with the slogan ‘Jasko jot uskai bhog’ advocating for freeing Kamaiya people, she managed to be a member of a local committee to campaign for Tharu rights in 2059 B.S. Even after the release of Kamaiya people, she still advocated for land for freed Tharu people, even in 2062-63 B.S.; just months after giving birth to her child.

सुन्दरी चौधरी

सुन्दरी चौधरीको जन्म एक खेती गर्ने परिवारमा भएको थियो। कमैँया नभएतापनि ऋण चुकाउन उहाँका बुवाले उनलाई जमिन्दारका घरमा पठाए। उनले त्यहाँ धेरै हिंसा, शोषण र उत्पीडन सहनुपर्यो। ९ माहिना पछि उनी भागेर घर फर्किन्। घरमा उनलाई १२ वर्षमा नै विवाह गरिदिइयो। विवाह गरे पश्चात उनलाई कमैँया बनाइयो। कमैयाबाट मुक्ति पाएपछि पनि उनले ३ ठाउँमा काम गर्नुपरेको थियो। त्यस समयमा उनले मिलबाट धेरै थारु आन्दोलानका बारेमा थापाइन् र समुहहरुमा संलग्न भइन्। Sundari Chaudhary was born in a peasant family. Despite not being a Kamaiya, her father sent her to work at a landowner’s house due to owing him a loan. There she experienced violence and abuse from the hands of the landowner’s wife. Even though she was supposed to work for a year, she fled the house after 9 months and returned home. However, upon returning home she was married off at the age of 12. Since she was married to a Kamaiya family, she was also made into a Kamaiya. Even after being freed by the government, she had to work three jobs to maintain herself. During this time she was exposed to plenty of Tharu liberation groups and started being involved in them.

जनक कुमारी चौधरी धनगढी महानगरपालिकामा पुर्व कमैया बुवा-आमाको कोखमा पाँच छोरी र एक छोरा मध्य जन्मेकी थिइन्। उनको पुर्ख्यौली घर चाँहि दाङ थियो। उनका बुवा-आमाले सबै छोरा-छोरीलाई पढाउन खोजेका थिए। उनीले नेपाल पैरवी सँघका अन्तर्गत महिला अधिकारका बारेमा पढाउन थालिन्। त्यसपछि उहाँलाई अरुले पनि पढाउन बोलाउन थाले। त्यतिखेर उनको थारु कल्याणकारी संस्था तर्फ ध्यानाकर्षण भयो। उनको अध्यक्ष बन्ने चाहना भएतापनि उनको अनुभव नभएका कारण उनी कोसाध्यक्ष बनिन् । उनले थारु समुदायका बारेमा धेरै मुद्दाहरु उठाइन्, तर नेताहरुले उनलाई बहुमत छैन भने। तर पनि उनले मुद्दाहरु हामिसँग उठाइन्- आयोगहरूमा २७% क्वोटा भएपनि थारुहरु अघि आउन पाउँदैनन्, चुनावमा थारुहरु, महिलाहरु र थारु-महिलाहरुले क्वोटा बाहिर सिट नै पाउँदैनन् र प्राय थारुहरूको आर्थिक अवस्था राम्रो छैन; स्कुलहरुले फिस् लिनुनहुने भएपनि प्रायले लिने गर्दछन्।
